Angles n°21 / 2026. “Borders in the English-Speaking World: Mapping and Countermapping”. Coordinated by Gwen Cressman, Marianne Hillion and Tim Heron.

The issue is available in open access here: https://journals.openedition.org/angles/10711

This special issue explores borders -  be they actual or metaphorical - and their counter-cartographic expressions all around the globe, from the American West in revolutionary times to colonial Australia, including halts in Canada, Ireland, England, Germany, and India. Beyond the map, borders are both space and process, fiction and reality. They have very real effects on people’s lives, influencing their ability to travel and the circulation of goods. In turn they are constantly modeled and remodeled by border dwellers and border crossers. Borders are grasped through mapping practices and other means such as writing, performance, poetry, and photography which are all explored throughout the issue.
